Voting

EU citizens living in Malta are entitled to vote in local elections (local council and general elections) once they have an EU residence permit. They can also vote in EU elections either in Malta or in their home state (but not both). Fill in the form provided with your residence permit. EU citizens cannot vote in national elections and non-EU citizens cannot vote in any elections.

General Elections
  • These are carried out every 5 years. The two main parties in Malta are The Labour Party, currently in power, and the Nationalist Party
Local Council Elections
  • Every locality has its own Local Council and elections are held every 4 years.
